For this renovation project in Coventry, George Roberts partnered with Ashdurn Scaffolding to provide innovative scaffolding solutions for a former supermarket being transformed into luxury apartments. The project involved removing the roof and the center of the eight floors below to create a stunning glass atrium.

Ashdurn Scaffolding was appointed to handle the scaffolding needs for this conversion. Safe access was required on the top level to facilitate the installation of steelworks and glass. This was achieved by erecting a four-sided Layher Scaffold on the roof and spanning it with 750mm X Beams supplied by George Roberts (North West).

Addressing Complexities in a Busy City Centre

Urban scaffolding projects, especially in busy city centers, come with unique challenges. The property’s central location in Coventry presented storage and unloading constraints. Two full loads of scaffolding equipment had to be delivered on-site the same day, unloaded by Hiab, and lifted onto the roof overnight within a six-hour window using a temporary crane.

Strategies for Effective City Centre Scaffolding Logistics

  • Timely Deliveries: Coordinated deliveries ensured the project stayed on schedule despite space limitations.
  • Efficient Unloading: Utilizing Hiab vehicles for unloading and a temporary crane for lifting materials onto the roof maximized efficiency.
  • Meticulous Planning: Detailed logistics planning was crucial to navigate the tight urban environment and meet project deadlines.
